Monovalent cations (A+) like Na+, K+, NH4+ are the most abundant elements and are the difficult species to get separated in an aqueous system. The presence of A+ is the major factor behind the inefficient treatment of wastewater and the high treatment cost for water recycling. For this reason, a high-efficiency A+ separation system is the most anticipated breakthrough mainly for resolving the global drinking water crisis. Prussian blue analogs (PBA) are the best known inorganic materials to selectively incorporate the A+. Therefore, these materials can be optimized to build an efficient desalination system for the removal/recycling of K+ or NH4+ that eventually connects to the low-cost harvesting of seawater for drinking purposes. With this motivation, a number of, PBA analogs, were tested for the selective adsorption of A+ from simulated seawater.
