Phosphazenes are inorganic compounds that may be in a linear, ring or polymeric structure connected to each other by phosphorus and nitrogen atoms. The most studied members of cyclophosphazenes are hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, in which the (NPCl2)n unit is repeated three-times, and octachlorocyclotetraphosphazene which is repeated four-times.1 There are very limited studies investigating the replacement reactions of tetramer in the literature.2 As known, partly/fully substituted cyclophosphazenes have drawn a great deal of interest for their potential as antimicrobial, antituberculosis and anticancer agents.3 The reactions of octachlorocyclotetraphosphazatetraene, N4P4Cl8 with two equimolar of bidentate ligand containing (4-fluorobenzyl) pendant arms gave the partly substituted 2-trans-6- ve 2-cis-6-bis(4-fluorobenzyl)spirotetrachlorocyclotetraphosphazenes. 2-Trans-6- was reacted with excess n-propylamine, n-butylamine, n-hexylamine, benzylamine and iso-propylamine to synthesize the monocyclic and bicyclic cyclotetraphosphazenes. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of some monocyclic and bicyclic cyclotetraphosphazenes were investigated against G(+)/G(-) bacteria and yeast strains. Furthermore, DNA cleavage and unwinding properties of the compounds with pBR322 plasmid DNA were examined by agarose gel electrophoresis. Also, compound-DNA incubation and BamHI and HindIII restriction enzyme digestions were realized to provide more insight into changes in DNA conformation.
