My first foray into the world of adhesion was in 1972 when I had joined the IBM Corporation in San Jose, CA as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist. I was immediately fascinated by the phenomenon of adhesion and it became amply patent that adhesion was critically important not only in microelectronics but in almost every industry.<br/>The first project I worked on at IBM-involved, cleaning of surfaces as an adequate cleaning is sine qua non for good adhesion. In the following years at IBM my research activities included: adhesion of coatings, silanes, surface modification, thin films, metallized plastics, photoresist adhesion and polyimides. While at IBM, I developed in 1976 a 2-3-day course on Adhesion Science and Technology.<br/><br/>Since leaving IBM in 1994 I have been busy editing journal and books, and teaching the course on Adhesion Science and Technology. My mission in life is to proselytize as many as I can to the wonderful field of adhesion. Apropos, about 10,000 individuals all over the world have taken the course from me. In the early stage, I was, intrigued by the field of adhesion but now I am stuck to it. Long Live Adhesion!
