Molecular sieves (MS) are used for dehydration or drying of natural gas to improve the heating value and thus are of importance for increasing of economic value. Adsorption is the process where a solid desiccant is used for the removal of water vapor from a gas stream. The solid desiccants commonly used for gas dehydration are those that can be regenerated and, consequently, used over several adsorption-desorption cycles. Conventional methods used for the preparation of shaped products involve mixing of the molecular sieve powder with a binding material followed by forming processes such as granulation or extrusion. A series of 5A zeolite-based MS with various types of binders was prepared in 1/8” extrudates form to investigate the effect different binders on the performance in terms of water uptake capacity and crushing strength (CS). High water adsorption capacity and CS strength was observed in the case of mixed type of binders (clay and alumina) used for the preparation of MS. The highest water adsorption capacity was observed with alumina binder; however, the CS was rather lower as compared with clay-based MS.
