New palladium(II) complexes were synthesized by the reaction of dichloro(4,4’-dimethyl-2,2’-dipyridyl)palladium(II) and several antimetabolite ligands, including isonicotinamide, 4-pyridinecarbonitrile, theophylline, and imidazole. Complexes were characterized by infrared and <sup>1</sup>H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of the new complexes shows the Pd(II) metal center in a distorted square planar geometry with an inner coordination sphere that contains one bidentate 4,4’-dimethoxy-2,2'-dipyridyl and at least one antimetabolite molecule. Cytotoxic studies of these complexes in MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines will also be presented.
