The Youth Environmental Alliance in Higher Education (YEAH) network links faculty across disciplines to develop and enhance multicultural and international engagement for students at the interface of science and policy. A primary goal is to provide authentic, real-world experiences in global environmental governance through active engagement with the annual international climate conference, Conference of the Parties (COP). Classes are linked from multiple institutions in a flexible network to accommodate different course structures and formats. Students share knowledge and conduct collaborative projects guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals framework. Leadership skills are developed through the YEAH Fellows program. YEAH Fellows are student leaders who work in teams to coordinate class activities, plan YEAH conferences, and organize COP events and engagement. YEAH students and Fellows have organized five virtual conferences, a Youth Dialogue on the U.S. National Climate Assessment, and presented events at COP25 and COP26. YEAH aims to transform students into agents of change by providing the multicultural and transdisciplinary perspectives, policy awareness, and scientific expertise that are essential to address the global challenges of our time.
