This talk will cover recent developments in method for studying ion channels using 2D IR spectroscopy.  Studying molecular structure, especially proteins structures, under applied volages is very difficult.  We have developed bilayer-sensitive 2D IR spectroscopy capable of monitoring structures under an applied voltage. The method wil be demonstrated on a model membrane and then applied to potassium ion channels and the voltage sensing domain.  We are working to develop a technique that bridges dynamics and structure for voltage gated systems.
