Iron oxyhydroxide are based on Fe element that are abundant in clay mineral and act as stabilizer that maintains the cycle of biogeochemical and the ecosystem of earth. It also has been gaining attention in metallurgy, water purification, energy storage, and many other fields [1]. There are many other forms of iron oxyhydroxide such as green rust, ferrihydrite, and ferric oxyhydroxide polymorphs. Among them, goethite, akaganeite, lepidocrocite, feroxyhyte are naturally born iron oxyhydroxide which is ferric oxyhydroxide. These polymorphs are metastable compared to Fe-O iron oxides and interlinks to compose the crystallization chain of iron oxides. Therefore, the synthesis of new iron oxyhydroxide shows a new way of crystallization of iron oxides.<br/>The particle attachment-based crystallization mode is a common method to synthesize the nanoparticles which colloidal building units assemble into the final form. It is also a well-known growth model to explain the formation of inorganic-organic composites such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), layered double hydroxides (LDHs) [2]. Acetate grafted on the surface of Fe building units is used to manipulate the interaction of the molecules during the synthetic process and arranges the space between the Fe building units [3]. Herein, we synthesized and analyzed the new phase of iron oxyhydroxide by intercalating the acetate. The stacking of 2D sheet of inorganic material with acetate create an unknown crystal structure, that is discrete from the lepidocrocite and green rust which is known as the layered ferric material. We suggest that the acetate is attached to the FeO6 octahedron which consists of the 2D sheets by covalent bonding and motivates the distortion and lamination of the crystal structure.
