The enthusiasm to generate new phosphorus based ligands is mainly due to the ever growing demand from industries and also their adaptability to all types of metallic environments to co-exist with other ligands. Phosphorus moieties attached to various donor functionalities or N, O or S heterocycles including N-heterocyclic carbenes show interesting coordination behaviour and find application in numerous organic transformations. Recently we reported several pyrazole,<sup> </sup>imidazole and triazole based mono- and bisphosphines and studied their coordination chemistry and catalytic applications. However, 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidenes are much more efficient donors than five-membered NHCs and 1,2,4-triazolylidene isomers. Further, they can be easily prepared in multi-gram scale by employing the well-established CuAAC “Click” reaction and phosphine moieties can be attached either to the side arms or on triazolic carbon atom to generate a wide range of multidentate ligand systems having rich coordination chemistry and catalytic utility. Some of these details will be discussed.
