Since the Industrial Revolution which began in UK in 1784, particulate matters (PMs) and air pollutants emitted from anthropogenic activities are perceived as a one of the serious problems for impeding human life. A removal of PM and gaseous air pollutant such as volatile organic compound (VOC) has received wide attention due to the harmful effects on human health. To date, we have long used a disposable electrostatic filter for PM and adsorptive filter for VOC, despite frequent replacement and waste problems. It is a huge challenge to develop a new filter that can be regenerated easily and simultaneously remove both PM and VOC in one body. Herein, we report a new class of regenerable ceramic catalytic filter (CCF) working under ambient conditions with following rational design which is a surface treatment of ceramic filter and a use of photocatalyst for a respective removal of PM and VOC. The result of single-pass test on this CCF is successfully proved by evaluating filter efficiency of about 95 % and VOC removal efficiency of about 90 % over a new developed photocatalyst with perfect oxidation reaction to form CO<sub>2</sub>. In addition, we have confirmed that CCF is renewable and its performance is maintained after regeneration. In this presentation, we present the rational design of this CCF and its confirmed performance. Besides, the high regenerability of CCF will be discussed in regard to “Sustainability”. A system applying CCF could propose a new way to be applicable in multiuse facilities with high concentrations of PM and VOC.
