The self-assembly of block copolymers is a powerful means for the control of morphologies on the 1—100 nm length scale.  While well-established in the polymer science field, this principle is limited to a relatively narrow class of polymer constituents. To enable functionalities that benefit from ordered morphologies on the mentioned length scale, beyond these typical polymers, it is necessary to extend polymer self-assembly to other materials, both organic an inorganic. <br/> <br/>This presentation will give an overview on how 3D polymer self-assembly can be harnessed for the templated synthesis of metals, metal oxides and other materials, and how these are then employed in metamaterials and materials for energy applications.
