While the performance of halide perovskite-based optoelectronics has surged over the past decade, issues associated with operational stability and environmental safety must still be resolved. Currently, glass-based encapsulation serves as one of the only solutions providing operational stability against the damp heat test. However, glass-based encapsulation is i) incapable of preventing Pb leakage upon physical impact and ii) incompatible with flexible/stretchable platforms.<br/><br/>To overcome these issues, we propose a multi-functional encapsulation platform based on self-healing polymers to provide halide perovskite-based optoelectronic devices with environmental safety and flexibility/stretchability while securing considerable operational stability. In contrast to glass encapsulated devices, Pb in in physically damaged halide perovskite solar cells were completely contained when encapsulated with self-healing polymers as indicated by in vitro cytotoxicity tests. Moreover, self-healing polymer allows for the fabrication of bendable and flexible halide perovskite solar cells while maintaining their performance. The self-healing polymer-based encapsulation also provides excellent long-term operational stability of over 1,000 h under 50 °C/50% RH. Finally, utilizing the adhesive nature of self-healing polymers, we introduce the concept of solder-free user-defined scalable modular halide perovskite-based optoelectronics.<br/>We believe this simple approach based on self-healing polymers provides an appealing solution to a multifaceted challenge associated with the commercialization of halide perovskite-based optoelectronics.
