C(sp2)-H Trifluoromethyl-substituted hydrazones are potentially interesting pharmaceutical compounds because of the favorable pharmacokinetics afforded by the trifluoromethyl group. Toward developing efficient, environmentally benign synthetic methods for the trifluoromethylation of hydrazones, we have demonstrated oxidative photoredox catalysis, using the cost-effective Langlois reagent and oxygen as the oxidant. This new synthetic method would thus provide a cost-effective and environmentally benign synthetic method for the trifluoromethylation of aldehyde hydrazones. A series of aromatic and heterocyclic aromatic aldehyde hydrazones give moderate to high yields of the corresponding a-trifluoromethylated compounds, and the reaction tolerates electron-withdrawing as well as electron-releasing substituents on the aromatic ring
