This presentation will describe the design, atomically-precise synthesis, characterization, and application of metal-organic-framework-supported catalysts comprising uniform arrays of reactant accessible clusters of oxy--metal, sulfido-metal, and related species. The presentation will focus on a few case studies that illustrate the applicability of this approach to energy-relevant chemical transformations involving vapor-phase reactants. Highlighted will be the ability of synchrotron techniques to assess catalyst nuclearity, gauge catalyst evolution, determine reactant and product siting, and facilitate mechanism assessment. Also highlighted will be the ability of MOFs to stabilize catalysts that would challenging to form or sustain in conventional catalytic cluster environments.
