Plasmonics, or the phenomena of coherent interactions of light and metal nanostructures, is an active field with a multitude of potential applications. Plasmonic responses can be tuned to specific wavelengths of light through variations of the size, shape, and composition of the nanostructure. One such nanostructure is the gold bipyramid, which allows for large electric field enhancements at the particle surface through sharp tips. Through a robust and tunable synthesis, a wide range of plasmonic responses can be readily achieved with especially high ensemble monodispersity. Here, we expand upon the unique and advantageous physical properties of the gold bipyramid and introduce them into organic surroundings for the first time with high phase transfer throughput and longevity. We also expand upon the altered physical and optical properties of the gold bipyramids in organic solvents, including ultrafast measurements that reveal an unexpected spectral shift over time that may relate charge transfer to particular ligands. This work will allow for the study of plasmonic nanostructures and their incorporation with water-sensitive and organic-soluble systems in the future, probing the utility for fundamental studies and applications in the fields of energy, catalysis, and quantum information science.
