We are involved in the synthesis of unique derivatives of guanidine natural products such as Ecliptamines and plumbagines with biologically active properties. It is anticipated that these natural product analogs will have antibacterial and anti-hyperglycemic applications. We are targetting  Ecliptamines and Plantagoguanidinic acid to see if we can improve the bioactivity profile of the natural products. The significance of this research lies in the lack of synthetic production of these natural products, which currently limits knowledge of their biologically active properties.  The chiral induction by the menthyl group functioning as a chiral auxiliary to direct the amination by the pendant guanidine/imidazopyrimidine core is the key feature of our synthesis. The details of the research progress would be presented.
