Symmetry-projected Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (PHFB) theory captures strong correlations and off-diagonal long range order at mean-field cost, but questions remain as to how to describe the residual weak correlations. In this talk, I will present PHFB-based correlated methods such as configuration interaction, Lie algebra similarity transformation, and random phase approximation. I will also discuss the effects of reference optimization, which is facilitated by an efficient Hessian implementation.
