Catalytic RNAs have diverse chemistry and biology. I will give an overview of experimental and theoretical studies from my research group in the area of RNA enzymes, or ribozymes. This will include recent computational studies on pKa shifting and nucleophile activation, as well as novel roles for small ribozymes in gene regulation. Overall, a picture emerges where novel RNA biology is inspiring new and exciting RNA chemistry.
