Abstract: The surface properties of Ferrous oxide (FeO) in the catalysis reaction have attracted extensive attention. Because of the high reactivities and economic efficiency, bright further have risen for the FeO catalyzed CO oxidation, which has been widely studied by various techniques. Ultra-high vacuum Scanning tunneling microscopy(UHV-STM), a technique that enables the sub-nano scale characterization on the surface properties, has been applied to uncover the mechanism of CO oxidation on FeO properties, so far, the reaction process of FeO on Pt(111) has been systematically researched. However, due to the weaker substrate interactions of Au(111), the CO catalysis oxidation on FeO/Au(111) is found to have a different path from the reaction on FeO/Pt(111). Some pioneer research found that the difference in the reaction is because of the unique edge properties of FeO/Au(111), but due to the limitations of STM, researchers lack a method to carry on the localized study on the edges of FeO/Au(111). Here, we introduce a way to build the edge blocked FeO/Au(111) sample, which may selectively block the Fe-edge, O-edge, or both edges of FeO, thereby giving a system to potentially block the reaction on a specific type of edge. This research can enable further research on the edge properties of FeO/Au(111) by comparing the different performances of different types of edge-blocked FeO.
