Two dichroic films with different absorbing wavelengths fabricated by dye-doped liquid crystal polymer networks are cross-stacked to show different colors and contrasts depending on the polarization direction of the incident linearly polarized light, which is comparable to the traditional single-layer dichroic dye-doped film, which only shows the contrast difference. In this study, we suggest various optical applications with this bilayer film such as dichroic color filters, dual-mode circular polarizers, and direct visualization of molecular chirality. Our approach of simply laminating two polymer films containing crossed optical axes is expected to overcome the limited applications of single-layer dichroic films and apply to the various filed including multi-color holograms, optical signal encryption, and electrically tunable color filter.
