Sulfur is a much-maligned element, yet the organic derivatives of sulfur are ubiquitous in modern synthetic chemistry, in nature and in organic materials science, particularly organic electronics. The talk will cover the evolution, from a personal point of view, of organic sulfur chemistry from synthesis of compounds with a chiral sulfur atom to organic metals and organic electronics, culminating in an organo-sulfur lithium battery with remarkable properties.
