Cyclodextrins (CD’s) are bucket-shaped, cyclic oligosaccharides which are well known for their ability to increase solubility. This feature gives CD’s the potential to increase bioavailability of other molecules via inclusion complex formation. Despite available studies, more research is needed on the ability of encapsulated pro-drugs as pharmaceuticals in a biological environment. The hydrophobic core of CD’s give these nanostructures the potential to emulate a biological environment, such as the cell membrane, DNA, lipids, proteins, etc., while remaining soluble in a substance like water due to their hydrophilic exterior. Our goal in this research is to find a plausible route for a successful drug delivery method using bis-functionalized N- containing triazole core molecules and β-CD in a model biomimetic system. In our research, we will utilize the sophisticated techniques of absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy to understand and compare the passage of the guest molecule in the supramolecular unit (CD) before and after drug inclusion. Through the dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique, we intend to measure the size of the drug-CD conjugate to understand the inclusion process.
