This talk will describe the custom integration of an OT-2 liquid handling robot with a UV-vis plate reader and its use for the high-throughput synthesis and characterization of metallic nanocrystals. We will discuss the advantages of using batch reactions rather than a flow reactor for this chemistry, including the ability to perform serial dilutions of reagents and to easily use the products from one reaction to seed another. We will highlight the use of machine learning to analyze the data obtained from this system, as well as our efforts to incorporate artificial intelligence into the system to enable closed-loop ‘self-driving’ autonomous operation as the system learns to synthesize nanocrystals that match a target spectrum.
