The ability to rationally design the physical properties exhibited by synthetic polymers for next-generation engineering applications is one of the grand challenges in modern polymer chemistry. The ability to control stereochemistry during propagation, in particular, has the potential to profoundly impact material properties. We designed a catalyst-controlled stereoselective polymerization that is general to vinyl ether substrates and provides access to a range of vinyl ether-derived homopolymers and copolymers with high degrees of isotacticity. This presentation will discuss the influence of stereoselectivity (<i>i.e.</i>, tacticity), monomer design, and microstructure on the properties of the isotactic poly(vinyl ether)s and other functional materials.
