Vitamin A and D3 test results for animal feeds are notorious for poor repeatability and reproducibility. This issue may be due to encapsulation of these vitamins, producing discrete particles, which then must be sampled in a way that represents the total material without destroying the vitamins. In this study, the effect of analytical test portion mass on the repeatability of vitamin A test results was measured experimentally. Particle size of the ingredients were characterized which were used to calculate predicted repeatability, fundamental sampling error, from Theory of Sampling equations. Major findings will be presented with future recommendations.
