Iron-based ionic liquid (Fe-IL, BmimFeCl4) has been used for the oxidative desulfurization of H2S, but H+ in H2S is always transferred into H2O during the regeneration process and largely escaped from desulfurization system as HCl owing to the strong acidity of Fe-IL, leading to the structure damage of Fe-IL, environmental pollution and energy waste. In this paper, a phase-change system was developed based on N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), polyethyleneglycol dimethyl ether (NHD), Fe-IL and HCl with the ability of oxidation and H+ enrichment. More importantly, Fe-IL is enriched in NHD phase that can be used for oxidative desulfurization of H2S and H+ is enriched in MDEA phase that can be used for H2 production by electrolysis. The phase diagram of NHD/MDEA/Fe-IL/HCl showed that the stable biphasic system can be easily obtained when V(MDEA)/V(NHD) is not more than 1:3. Furthermore, with the increase of HCl concentration or V(Fe-IL)/V(NHD), the partition coefficient of Fe3+ decreased specifically due to the decreased volume ratio of NHD phase to MDEA phase (φ). The obtained NHD phase at V(MDEA)/V(NHD) = 1:7 has good redox performance, relatively high conductivity and good thermal stability. Finally, the kinematic viscosity of MDEA phase could be decreased from 951 mm2/s at 25 oC to 100 mm2/s at 65 oC.
