**Abstract Text**
The dynamics of subsurface hydrology and its characterization, that is the understanding of soil moisture behavior in both space and time, is critical to advancing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) system design. The purpose of this research is to assess the performance of a bioswale based on a year-long duration of soil moisture measurements. The seasonal variation of GSI performance is discussed through subsurface parameters such as duration of saturation, soil moisture recession, desaturation, infiltration, and evapotranspiration. A soil moisture profile conceptual framework is used which describes these parameters based on the specific identified points representing different soil moisture regimes during the storm. About 55 field experiment demonstrates the usefulness of the framework to indicate system’s health and establish system response and recovery. The framework allows for a detailed understanding of the water dynamics within the soil that is a function of design choices, system maintenance success, and local site conditions. The soil moisture trends are identified based on the selected soil moisture identified points to interpret the soil moisture content over season, which indicated the impact on runoff generation, plant growth, or soil erosion due to change in temperature.
