Constructing or retrofitting streets in urban areas with green infrastructure can be a successful way for cities to meet stormwater regulations without acquiring land from private owners. In North Carolina; the implementation of suspended pavement systems with vegetation (DeepRoot Silva Cells; ACF Environmental R-Tanks) have been monitored for water quality and hydrology improvement in Burlington; Durham; Fayetteville; Goldsboro; and Wilmington. Results from these monitoring studies have provided valuable lessons regarding the design and construction of suspended pavement systems. This presentation will discuss how to design suspended pavement systems to reduce bypass and improve pollutant removal as well as provide recommendations for improving this stormwater practice's constructability.

EWRI Session #1: Using Lessons Learned from Monitoring Studies to Improve the Design and Construction of Suspended Pavement Systems
