This study developed a new sustainable pothole patching material using 100% reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and a biobinder from waste cooking oil (WCO). The influence of biobinder dosage and production temperature (90°C and 100°C) on the mechanical performance of these Bio-RAP mixtures were evaluated using indirect tensile strength test (IDT), Hamburg wheel track test (HWTT), and interlayer shear bonding strength test. The designed Bio-RAP mixtures were used to patch pavement potholes in the field. The results showed that the biobinder could function as both of recycling agent and binding agent in Bio-RAP mixtures. With increase in biobinder dosage, the IDT strength of Bio-RAP mixtures decreased and the cracking tolerant index (CTindex) increased. A higher production temperature was found to enhance the blending between biobinder and RAP binder and improve the integrity of Bio-RAP mixtures. All evaluated Bio-RAP specimens had sufficient bonding strength with the base asphalt mixture. The field pothole patching work showed that biobinder dosage, production temperature, and pothole shape are critical factors for increasing the lifespan of the Bio-RAP mixture as a sustainable patching material.
