Commercially available pureed food is a common source of nutrition for babies and toddlers. However, the presence of heavy metals in baby foods, such as lead and arsenic, even at a lower concentration, may pose serious health detrimental effects to young ones. Therefore, an investigative study was performed to detect and determine toxic heavy metals in baby food based on rice, green vegetables, fruits, and chicken. First, the baby food samples belonging to different brands were collected for the study. Then, the microwave acid digestion method was employed to digest the food samples with nitric acid, and finally, the trace amount of metal (Pb) was quantitatively analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
