To make the right decisions about which new molecules to select and prioritize through the discovery cycle, teams must consider all relevant existing information. This includes historical project findings, published scientific and patent literature, and data from sophisticated computational and AI models. However, this wealth of information comes in many different forms, stored in separate databases, and teams often don’t have the time required to manually locate and understand key pieces of data on demand. The pharmaceutical industry is also seeing increasing diversity in business models, with many organizations opting to outsource at least part of their operations to specialist providers to reduce costs and accelerate pipelines. As a result, effective communication and information delivery are more crucial than ever to research productivity. Information must be readily accessible to researchers, so that decisions can be made quickly and confidently. We present Torx®, a platform that revolutionizes collaboration, information capture and sharing in drug discovery, just as the electronic lab notebook (ELN) transformed the documentation of proprietary information. Torx connects teams and information across the entire Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycle in a centralized web browser. - During Design, teams can view similar previously attempted molecules, even after the assigned chemists have moved on. As such, knowing what has worked and what hasn’t prevents duplicated efforts. The ability to view the relevant properties of new designs facilitates better decision-making on which to progress to synthesis. - For those compounds progressed to Make, synthesis teams can stay updated with assignments and priorities, maximizing resource management and productivity. Staying updated can be complicated when teams outsource to CROs – in this case, direct but secure communication and information sharing is vital. - During Test, collaboration between chemistry and assay teams enables effective scheduling and delivery of test requests and results. A central platform that captures priorities, requirements and expected delivery times ensures that all project stakeholders can work as efficiently as possible. - Biological and physico-chemical assays produce a wealth of data that feeds into Analysis. Here, chemistry teams need to access and probe the data, in the context of all available chemical information, so that key learnings can be used to direct the next DMTA iteration.
