The Tennessee Tech University student chapter focuses on member development and opportunities by offering events for the chapter, university, and community. Our chapter is making significant efforts in the area of DEIR by incorporating inclusion moments into our chapter meetings and highlighting diverse scientists at each meeting. We strive to maintain an active social media presence and connect with members through our Instagram account. We plan a week of activities for NCW including an activity bag giveaway at a local park, a Green Chemistry lecture, participating in the campus Sustainability Day Celebration with a demo about designing for degradation, a chemistry of fibers presentation, and a Mole Day walk. We also hold regular fundraisers like Pie a Professor, the Periodic Table of Cupcakes bake sale, goggle and notebook sales for departmental labs, quarter zip and t-shirt sales, and restaurant spirit nights. The chapter also hosts monthly social events including movie and game nights, as well as a craft night to give students a break from studying and school work to socialize with their fellow students. We provide various professional development opportunities such as hosting speakers, holding an REU presentation, and sending members to disseminate their research at regional and national ACS meetings. The Tennessee Tech chapter strives to be highly active, well-rounded, and a valuable resource for our members.
