The use of well-defined bimetallic complexes wherein two metal atoms can cooperatively promote chemical reactions and catalysis is a reemerging and growing area in homogeneous catalysis. The design and exploration of new ligands that enable such metal–metal cooperativity is key for the further development of multimetallic catalysis. In comparison to monometallic systems, relatively few ligands have been reported that are capable of both binding two metal centers in close proximity and also providing accessible coordination sites on both metals to enable metal–metal cooperativity in catalytic applications. Towards the goal of bimetallic cooperativity, we have developed bis-dipyrromethane (BDPM) based ligand scaffolds that can bind two metals in a single ligand framework. We have synthesized a series of bimetallic M<sub>2</sub>-BDPM (M = Sc, Ti, Zr, and V) complexes and this presentation will discuss characterization of these complexes through NMR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Furthermore, reactivity studies with small molecule substrates will be described.
