In this work, hybrid materials have been fabricated by hydrothermal method with high temperature annealing in different condition. To investigate the features of two kinds of materials, the experiments were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, STXM and XANES. The structure characterization results manifest that Fe/Mn binary oxide has been successfully prepared in air, and the synthesized MnFe2O4 particles are evenly distributed on the surface of amorphous carbon in the C@MnFe2O4 hybrid under the condition of N2. In order to compare the activation ability of the two materials on PS. The factors to affect the catalytic degradation of TBBPA by Fe/Mn binary and C@MnFe2O4 systems were investigated systematically. The results demonstrate that the highest removal ratio of TBBPA could reach 91.3% after treatment of 60 min by Fe/Mn binary and 91.9% after treatment of 90 min by C@MnFe2O4. Furthermore, the C@MnFe2O4 hybrid demonstrates a high stability and recyclability. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) verifies that the introduction of Fe/Mn binary and C@MnFe2O4 for degradation of TBBPA. OH radical is the main radical activated by Fe/Mn binary, and C@MnFe2O4 could facilitate the generation of OH and sulfate radicals simultaneously. This work provides a new insight for the design and development of novel catalyst for the activation of PS to degrade organic pollutants.
