Metal hydroxyacetates have been shown to form 1D adducts that can <i>in situ </i>self-assemble into tunable 3D high-aspect ratio nanomaterials. This talk will focus on the synthesis of p-block metal hydroxyacetate and their lanthanide homologues. We investigate effect of change in valence shell and coordination number, and associated steric hinderances, in the structure of the resulting hydroxyacetates. Effect of post synthesis ligand ablation on the resulting metal oxides is also investigated. WE observe shifts in band structure, hence, optical absorption in the resulting materials.
