As a result of the demand to incorporate the ever growing field of green chemistry into student laboratories, several traditional methodologies have been altered to reflect this growing field.  Recently, the introduction of solar reflectors developed from satellite dishes which have been found to have the ability to be incorporated into student laboratory procedures to eliminate electricity and demonstrate green chemistry techniques at the same time. These solar reflectors have been used to demonstrate chemical synthesis procedures in a more environmentally friendly manor.  An effective means for analyzing the melting point of a compound has been developed to incorporate into undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories using the introduction of solar reflectors as the heat source for the analysis.  A comparative study was conducted using an electrical and solar heat source on the analysis of compounds with melting points ranging from 75°C to near 200°C.
