Platinum(II) complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of Pt(phen)Cl<sub>2</sub> (where phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) with silver triflate in acetonitrile, followed by the addition of antimetabolites including acetamide, isonicotinamide, 4-pyridinecarbonitrile, imidazole, and theophylline. The structure of the new complexes contains a platinum metal center surrounded by one phenanthroline as an ancillary ligand and two antimetabolite molecules as monodentate ligands in a distorted square planar geometry. The new complexes have been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, <sup>1</sup>H-NMR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and their cytotoxic activity was measured against MCF-7 breast cancer cells.
