Direct measurement of local pH and the onset of product formation is conducted using a rotating ring disc assembly, where the products generated from the disc is convectively transported to the ring collector.  This setup has enabled (1) the direct measurement of local pH during catalysis, (2) the correlation of cation in the electrolyte to the local pH during catalysis, (3) the correlation of CO2RR products to the local pH/cation effect, (3) the detection of plausible CO2RR mechanistic pathways from otherwise undetectable species.  This presentation will highlight our recent findings on the plausible CO2RR pathways toward multi-carbon products.
