<br/>Photovoltaic cells are used to harness solar energy, turning sunlight into electricity. We have investigated a method of synthesizing a model for organic solar cells by concentrating on<br/>thiophene-containing compounds. Vacuum sublimation, NMR spectroscopy, and column chromatography have been employed as methods of synthesis, purification, and characterization. Successful completion and purification of products have occurred up through step two of our three-step synthesis. Future directions include restarting the whole of the synthesis in order to obtain more product so that the third synthetic step may be performed.
