Transition metal phosphide materials play an important role as heterogeneous catalysts and semiconductors in solid-state chemistry, however, discrete transition metal-based phosphide complexes remain scant with just a handful of known examples constricted to d<sup>0</sup> group 6 metals. Only recently have d<sup>2</sup> metal phosphides been discovered by the groups of Schneider and Agapie. Presented herein are our efforts toward the synthesis of the first neutral form of niobium phosphide and the reactivity studies of the phosphide with various chalcogen-atom transfer reagents and electrophiles.
