Silver nanocubes (AgNCs) have drawn a lot of attention due to their powerful plasmonic properties, which are frequently utilized in fluorescence enhancement, refractive index-based sensing, and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). A common approach for synthesizing AgNCs is through the polyol synthesis, which is carried out in an organic solvent at a high temperature, reducing the economic and environmental appeal. In this study, we explored an aqueous synthesis method, which uses gold seeds as a core to form AgNCs at relatively low temperature conditions. Various components like the seed volume, surfactant concentration and silver ion amount were manipulated in order to understand their impact on the morphology of the resulted AgNCs. The plasmonic properties of AgNCs with various sizes were evaluated through refractive index sensitivity and SERS performance. In addition, a silica shell will be coated on the AgNC and its impact on the plasmonic properties will be further explored.
