DNA acts as a template for the replications of a second DNA strand through the hydrogen bonding of the proper base pairs: adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine. The base pairs, in turn, are connected by phosphodiester bonds. We are pursuing an alternative template design to DNA, which operates through the matching of sulfur—nitrogen interactions and are connected through an amide backbone. Our synthetic progress and kinetic studies are presented.
