Paralysis, also called plegia is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes loss of motor function of one or more muscles. Structural and functional abnormalities of neurons cause disrupted communication between the nervous system and muscles. Stroke and spinal cord injury (SCI) are the most common causes of paralysis. <i>Abrus precatorius,</i> a native ethnobotanical Indian plant, has been traditionally used as an anti-paralytic. In this project, the Network Pharmacology approach was explored to determine the potential mechanisms of phytochemicals present in the plants in the treatment of paralysis. The study showed that among 108 phytochemicals, only seven compounds had desired ADME activity for further evaluation. Three out of seven phytochemicals showed interaction with targets involved in paraplegia, quadriplegia, and todd’s paralysis. The results found by PPI state that these compounds show significant interactions with SCN3A, CAPN1, MMP9, SLC2A1, and TLR4. Compound-target network involves three active phytochemicals: Abrine, anthocyanins, mystric and 36 target genes that indicate the mechanisms of drug action in paralysis treatment. Further, docking analysis elucidated target-protein interaction.
