Enantioselective and regioselective carbon-carbon bond formation has been accomplished by merging photoredox/palladium catalysis. Here, silicon was used as a directing group to control the regioselectivity in the allylic alkylation event. This approach provided access to a stereogenic center bearing aliphatic substituents. In this dual catalysis platform, Hantzsch ester was utilized as a radical precursor to combine with π-(allyl)Pd(II) complexes generated from silicon-substituted allylic electrophiles. The resulting vinyl silane moiety in the products has been used for further functionalization.
