Medicinal Cannabis has become the subject of intense study due to its biological activity against different diseases. Except for the main component of cannabis, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the other present phytocannabinoids, lack psychotropic properties but have demonstrated they can be used for some medical purposes. During the last decade, the interest has been focused on Cannabidiol because it is the second most abundant cannabinoid and has confirmed anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-nausea, anticonvulsive, anti-anxiety, antipsychotic, anti-epileptic, and antitumor properties. Recently, natural and synthetic CBD derivatives have been studied for their possible therapeutic benefits or disadvantages over CBD. CBDA, CBDV and CBD-C1 are the natural CBD derivatives isolated from the plant. Even though they are CBD analogs, their properties may differ. In order to further explore the potential anti-cancer activity of CBD analogs, several novel compounds will be explored. These compounds will bear the alkyl end of CBD, CBDV and CBD-C1 linked to a ferrocene group via an enone bridge resulting in three ferrocenyl chalcones. Ferrocene has shown that its presence in the structure of already-known medicines can increase their biological activity. Given the biological properties of both ferrocene and CBD analogs, proposed compounds could be promising potential anti-cancer agents. Here we report the synthesis of some Ferrocenyl Cannabidiol Hybrids via a Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction. Acetylferrocene will react with the formylated CBD derivative alkyl end under basic conditions to obtain the corresponding products. Spectroscopic characterization via FTIR, 1HNMR and 13CNMR will be performed for all products and intermediates. The biological activity of each compound against breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 will be evaluated. The methodology, characterization and biological assays’ results will be elaborated.
