The Volatility Basis Set serves as a framework for understanding complex organic oxidaiton mechanisms in the atmosphere, as they relate to condensation to particles. It also defines a discretization for numerical simulation. Variants include the dynamic VBS to understand nucleation and growth from organic condensation as well as the radical VBS to explore and caputure especially peroxy radical (RO2) behavior. Here we will consider examples of the radical and dynamic VBS important to understanding new-particle formation and growth.
