Si-based alloys were selected as potential phase change materials (PCMs) in the thermal energy storage system. It is due to its high heat of fusion, high thermal conductivity, moderate melting temperature, low cost, and abundance on earth. To use these PCMs successfully, the thermodynamic properties of the selected Si-based alloys were investigated theoretically and experimentally. It was found that Fe-26Si-9B (mass. %) alloy was suitable to be used in thermal energy systems. Fe-26Si-9B alloy has the advantages of low liquidus temperature ((~1250 <sup>o</sup>C), high storage density (4.5 kJ/cm<sup>3</sup>, in theory), and stable phases during thermal cycles. Moreover, the volumetric expansion was negligible through solid-liquid phase changes, which is expected for PCM.
