A six-step synthetic route to form tertiary amine-containing oxazolidinones is described. An alternate four step synthetic route for non-sulfur containing amines will also be shown. The synthetic routes and analysis of NMR spectra, which confirms the structure of the products and intermediates, will be presented. These molecules, as well as their HCl salts, will be tested for their antibiotic activity with the goal of being more water-soluble than current oxazolidinones.
