The dysregulation of iron in organisms may produce reactive oxygen species which damage biomolecules, from which disease ensues. We are studying tripodal ligands to sequester iron and affect the formation of hydroxyl radical in the cell.  We have devised a new method to prepare bifunctional, tripodal ligands based on TAME.  In this lecture we present new TAME-based ligands for the complexation of Fe(II) and Fe(III).  The targeting of these chelators to organelles will be discussed in relation to the programmed cell death process, ferroptosis.
