<br/>Intensive efforts have yielded recent progress in carbon dioxide reduction using copper electrocatalysts. These catalysts include both surfaces and nanoparticles. We are studying the modification of copper nanoparticles with capping agents that might cooperate in this catalysis, including thiolates, phosphonates, and related species. Synthetic approach and preliminary catalytic results relating to carbon dioxide electroreduction and selective C-C bond formation will be presented.<b>  </b>
